Downtown Detroit has vibrant health and wellness community. Though many are temporarily closed due to social distancing mandates, we’d like to introduce you to wellness businesses across metro Detroit and ways to support their missions.

1. Meta Physica Wellness Center

Based in charming Corktown—Detroit’s oldest neighborhood lined in cobblestone streets, quaint Victorian homes, and some of the city’s most reputable shops and restaurants—Meta Physica Wellness Center is a holistic space with a range of offerings. From massages to acupuncture to a raw juice bar, Meta Physica’s services are comprehensive. Its most popular service? Infrared saunas. Unlike traditional saunas, which use hot stones and steam in high temperatures, Meta Physica uses Sunlighten saunas, which generate infrared heat for a healthier, more comfortable therapeutic experience. Sixty-minute sessions in its eucalyptus and cedar saunas are sought after for detoxification, weight loss, and pain relief. Support Meta Physica through the purchase of a gift certificate in the amount of at least $20 by May 15, and you’ll enter for a chance to win one of three prizes featuring wellness services and beverages at the center. Follow @metaphysicawellness on Instagram for contest rules. Good luck! Meta Physica Wellness Center, 1701 Trumbull Ave., Suite 3, Detroit; 313-303-7611; metaphysicamassage.com

2. DripIV Therapy and Hydration

Now, more than ever, we understand the importance of maintaining our health. We’re committing to our workout regimens, popping vitamin C tablets, and eating balanced meals in an effort to boost our immune system. If you’re chugging water and hydrating with drinks infused with electrolytes, you’ve got the right idea. A fundamental element of good health is keeping hydrated. It’s why IV therapy has become a popular trend in the health and wellness space—even before the COVID-19 crisis. At DripIV Therapy and Hydration, clients can choose from a range of nutrient-rich formulas based on their various health needs. As a facility that promotes the health of its clients, DripIV is continuing to offer IV therapy treatments. Try the Super-B Hydration, designed to treat dehydration, low energy, and sleep deprivation; the Stress Relief, a cocktail of magnesium, B-complex vitamins, vitamin C, and more; or any one of DripIV’s many offerings. The team is also giving back by offering free vitamin C infusions for healthcare professionals on the frontlines of the crisis. 3. Salinair Salt Room Spa

Salt. It’s a household ingredient and one that can be used for a number of health purposes. For years, wellness enthusiasts have decorated their homes with Himalayan salt lamps as air purifiers and moody lighting to help raise energy levels. And its antiseptic properties can help keep bacteria at bay—dissolve just a tablespoon of sea salt into a glass of warm water and you’ve got yourself a suitable, natural mouthwash. For similar reasons, halotherapy is a natural treatment that has been practiced for centuries. For this treatment, a contained space is filled with salt to promote respiratory and skin health. At Salinair Salt Room Spa, guests with asthma, allergies, congestion, psoriasis or eczema, stress, anxiety, or depression, are invited to unwind in a room using a laser-controlled technology that adjusts salt aerosol concentrations according to clients’ needs. Salinair is currently closed to the general public, but feel free to reach out for ways that you can support their mission of halotherapy. And ask about ways to construct a salt sanctuary in your own home. Once social distancing mandates are lifted, Salinair can build your dream salt room. Salinair Salt Room Spa, 131 W. Auburn Rd., Rochester Hills; 248- 747-0543; salinair.com

4. Sacred Wave Gong Immersions

Gong therapy, a form sound meditation, uses the vibration of gongs to promote healing. The sounds of the gong usher those practicing into deep meditative states, calming and soothing the body. Gong therapy is a centuries-old ritual sought after by those with high anxiety stressful lifestyles. Here in the Detroit area, Christopher Davis, minister and sound therapy practitioner at Sacred Wave Gong Immersions, offers sound therapy as a vehicle for mental and emotional healing through regular events and private sessions. Davis is currently sharing virtual sound healing sessions on YouTube and Facebook @SacredWaveGongImmersions, and can create a recording for you, too! Call for more information. Sacred Wave Gong Immersions, 808 Rochester Rd., Clawson; 248-721-7094

5. Motor City Float

On any given day, we’re overstimulated with information. Float therapy offers an escape. Envision a private, dimly lit space where you’re free to float in warm, calm water with no distractions. Magnesium-rich salts keep your body buoyant and have nourishing properties to help soften skin and soothe tense muscles. Once float therapy centers re-open on the other side of this crisis, they’ll be the perfect place to recover from months of stress and ongoing news updates. In the meantime, Motor City Float is offering 25% off all floats purchased until their reopening. For each float sold, they’re donating one to frontline healthcare workers to unwind from months of selfless service. Buy one (or two!) for you, and help a medical worker in need.
