10 Things to Do for Your Mental Wellness In November

Written by: Rachael Thomas

Happy November!

This month brings family, friends and fellowship as we ring in the holiday season (we won’t judge if you started playing Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” as soon as it hit midnight on the first). We’ve rounded up some Hooky-approved things you can do for your mental wellness throughout the month.

Host a Friendsgiving dinner

Whether your group of pals have one in-person or virtually, this is a great way to enjoy some food and drinks with the people you’re most thankful for.

Enjoy your favorite sweet during National Candy Day

Treat yourself on Nov. 4!

Take advantage of the end of Daylight Saving Time

The clocks go back an hour on Nov. 7; now is a good time to revisit your work and personal schedules. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is real so prioritizing your time to take advantage of the daylight we have will be of benefit.

Send a card to a loved one just because

This simple gesture could mean more than you know. We love these cards by Michigan-based author and keynote speaker Shannon Cohen and Black-owned stationery brand Aya Paper Co.

Go to a paint and sip class

Put your artistry skills to the test while enjoying some wine.

Learn how to knit

Maybe you’ll have a hat, scarf, blanket or sweater ready in time for winter. This is also a great example of active meditation, which is when you’re doing a calming action that allows your mind to wander (it’s also ideal for people who can’t sit still).

Make some bread on Homemade Bread Day

Rise to the occasion on Nov. 17 (haha, get it?) Check out these Food Network recipes for rolls, flatbreads, sticky buns, tortillas, and more.

New November Read: Will by Will Smith

Debuting Nov. 9, Smith’s memoir promises a read full of lessons he’s learned from growing up in West Philly to becoming one of the biggest forces in the entertainment industry. Find it here.

And prepare to cry your eyes out to Adele’s new album

The English singer-songwriter will release her fourth studio album 30 on Nov. 19. And clearly we’re ready for her — the record became the most pre-added album of all time on Apple Music. In the meantime, you can listen to the first single off the album, “Easy On Me.”

Shop small for Small Business Saturday on Nov. 27

As you prepare to buy presents for the holidays, consider supporting your local shops this season.
